KAG Southwest Silver started out in the early 2000's as Pecos Enterprises. I was based out of Pecos New Mexico and made southwestern beaded silver and turquoise necklaces, bracelets, and ear rings. When I retired from my full time job in 2014, I closed down PE and started a nomadic life as a full time RVer.
Even before that, way back in the late 70's and early 80's I was taught silver smithing by a Navajo friend in Cibola County New Mexico. I did both smithing, and beading way back then.
Now, I have settled in Henderson County Tennessee, and have started making not only the beaded jewelry that PE was known for and started up silver smithing again. I only use .999 and .925 sterling silver in my smithing. (The .999 is more pure, but the .925 is a lot stronger)
Most of my southwestern silver pieces are marked with "KAG" and a date code that says when the piece was made. For example, "2505" would mean the piece was made in May of 2025. (The first two numbers are the year, and the second two are the month) Some pieces are too small to stamp.
You MAY run into some of my older pieces with date codes from about 77-81. Those would be VERY rare pieces that I made when I first started smithing as a teen. From 1981-2025 I didn't smith at all. I just started back up again in May of 2025. 79-81 is when I made the most, and my best work when I was younger. Most of my early pieces were rings and brooches, with a handful of belt buckles and bracelets. Now, I am concentrating mostly on buckles and rings, and I will be doing some bolo ties in the near future. (I haven't decided yet on if I will be making brooches.)..
As I am just starting out again, I will not be "marking up" my new pieces much. Basically, I just want to recoup the cost of materials so I can continue to create new pieces.
